Gastroscopy
A complete examination of the two lining tissues of the stomach.
Stone Ridge Equine Care offers gastroscopy procedures with a 3-meter scope to aid in the diagnosis of gastric ulcers. Irritable behavior, poor performance, cinchy when saddling, and random episodes of colic are some of the many symptoms of gastric ulcers.
Only a gastroscope can definitively confirm or rule out a diagnosis of Equine Gastric Ulcer Syndrome and distinguish between the two forms:
- Equine Squamous Gastric Disease (ESGD)
- Equine Glandular Gastric Disease (EGGD).
Using the 3-meter gastroscope, we are able to view the exact anatomical location of the ulcerations along with the severity. We then can recommend specific and distinct treatment and management protocols to not only ensure proper healing but also a plan for prevention.
