Coggins and Health Certificates

Coggins and Health Certificates
October 3, 2024
A coggins test is good for 1 year.  A coggins test
ensures that your horse does not have EIA (Equine Infectious Anemia).
EIA is a very contagious and reportable disease that we are making
sure your horse does not have prior to travel.  It is a simple blood
test that we send to the lab and have results in several days.  You
must have a current coggins in order for us to write a health
certificate.

Did you also know that to leave the state, you have to have a current
Health Certificate (within the last 30 days)?? These are things that
we can definitely help you with when preparing for a trip! The health
certificate proves that your horse has been seen by one of our amazing
veterinarians and is cleared for travel. We would appreciate several
days advance notice for health certificates so that we can ensure all
the information is up to date. This also gives us time to apply for a
permit number if you are traveling to a state that requires a permit
to be added to your health certificate.

Extended Health Certificates are another option if you are traveling a
lot over a 6 month period. However, some states and destinations do
not accept extended health certificates. Please let us know all of
your possible destinations so we can check and see if an extended
health certificate is best for you and your horse! If the states you
are traveling to are accepting extended health certificates, this may
be the best option for you!

Call us if you have any questions about Coggins or Health Certificates!
